Custom Standoffs and Spacers for Industrial UAVs

Standoffs space and fix avionics boards, payload electronics, sensor plates and structural plates at a set height in industrial UAVs. We machine each one to your length, thread, body shape and material.

We build them from a few pieces for a prototype stack to repeat batches. Drone standoffs sit in our structural UAV components family and are also listed with our mechanical connector components.

UAV standoff types we machine

Female-female (F-F)

Internal thread at both ends, so each level is fixed with its own screw. Typical in avionics board stacks and under sensor plates.

Male-female (M-F)

A threaded stud at one end and an internal thread at the other, so standoffs screw into each other to stack several levels. Typical on multi-level stacks and on antenna and GPS mounts.

Hex or round body

A hex body is tightened with a wrench and suits tight access; a round body saves weight on payload trays. On aluminum, either body takes black or color anodized finishes (MIL-A-8625 Type II).

Spacer (unthreaded)

An unthreaded spacer has a screw passing through it and sets plate spacing in the airframe. Blocks that join plates at an angle are covered by our drone fastening blocks.

Shoulder or captive

A shoulder standoff adds a locating shoulder; a captive standoff keeps its screw retained. Both suit payload electronics trays that are removed often from the airframe.

Manufacturing Process & Quality

Material Selection
Alloy and temper taken from your drawing (7075-T6 and 6061-T6 aluminum first, titanium or stainless where the load asks for it), with material certificates available on request.
CNC Machining
3-axis and 5-axis milling and CNC turning, with fixtures and toolpaths chosen for thin walls, flat seats and bolt patterns that must repeat from the first prototype to every batch.
Deburring & Cleaning
Edges broken and cable exits deburred as the drawing calls out, then parts cleaned so bores, threads and mating faces are free of chips and oil before finishing.
Surface Finish
Hard anodizing, black anodizing, chem film, electroless nickel or laser marking, applied as specified on the drawing, with masking of fits and threads where the callout requires it.
Final Inspection
Critical features measured on CMM against the drawing datums, with feature-to-feature checks for alignment and flatness; CMM and FAI reports are provided on request.

Custom standoffs to your drawing

Specify length (tight where stack height matters), thread size and depth, hex or round body, lightening holes or anti-rotation flats, end-face perpendicularity and finish.

Avionics and payload stack standoffs

Stack height

When several boards or plates are stacked, standoff length errors add up. A tight length tolerance keeps connectors aligned between levels; the boards themselves are covered by our control unit plates.

Thread sizes and classes

ISO metric coarse threads (ISO 261 / ISO 262), typically M2.5 to M5 as set by the design, with 6H internal and 6g external classes. Threaded holes in the plates are often reinforced with screw-mount inserts.

Grounding or insulation

Aluminum standoffs can carry the ground path between boards and the frame; PEEK or nylon standoffs insulate electronics from it. Chem film (MIL-DTL-5541) keeps aluminum conductive for grounding.

Vibration and alignment

Rigid standoffs for sensors that must stay aligned; damped mounting with isolators where electronics must be decoupled from the airframe. Our titanium UAV parts add strength and vibration resistance in a small section.

Access and airflow

Stack height leaves room for connectors, and for cooling air around the boards: standoff length sets both clearances.

Quote inputs Length, OD or hex size, thread and depth, material, finish, quantity
Files accepted Drawing or size table; CAD formats to be confirmed
What is the difference between a standoff and a spacer?
A standoff is threaded (male or female ends) and holds parts at a set distance; a spacer is unthreaded and a screw passes through it.
Can you make custom standoffs in small quantities?
Yes, there is no minimum order quantity; we machine from a few pieces for a prototype avionics stack up to repeat production batches.
Aluminum, titanium or PEEK standoffs for UAV avionics?
Aluminum for light weight and grounding, titanium for strength and vibration resistance, PEEK or nylon when the standoff must insulate electronics.
What do you need to quote custom standoffs?
A drawing or table with length, OD or hex size, thread type and depth, material, finish and quantity. Accepted formats:. We sign NDAs on request.
Can you machine lightweight custom standoff shapes?
Yes: hex or knurled sections, relieved (waisted) shanks, lightening slots and anti-rotation flats, machined to your drawing to save weight without weakening the threaded ends.
